Honoring Doctor King's Legacy

Ari Berman wrote in The Nation , "No doubt many in Congress will praise Dr. King during his annual holiday and celebrate the accomplishments of the VRA on its fiftieth anniversary. But those words will ring hollow unless they honor King’s legacy by working to protect voting rights and strengthen the VRA." http://www.thenation.com/blog/195281/honor-kings-legacy-protecting-voting-rights#

In the article Berman details how the Supreme Court decision, Shelby County v. Holder in 2013, gutted the important section 4 of the Voting Rights Act that King worked to see passed by our Congress. Since the SCOTUS decision several states have enacted harsh restrictions on voting rights that have prevented many voters from exercising their rights.

We must demand that our representatives in Congress pass legislation to restore that section 4 provision. Please take action by contacting your representatives in Congress.
