Progressive Taxation

Nobody wants to be poor. Nobody wants to work for $7.25/hr. Nobody wants to be on Food Stamps or have to rely on Social Security Disability. If we are going to remedy these issues and many others facing our country, then we need to take a look at progressive taxation.
  1. "A progressive tax takes a larger percentage of income from high-income groups than from low-income groups and is based on the concept of ability to pay. A progressive tax system might, for example, tax low-income taxpayers at 10 percent, middle-income taxpayers at 15 percent and high-income taxpayers at 30 percent." http://apps.irs.gov/app/understandingTaxes/student/whys_thm03_les03.jsp
Democrats want to remedy the situation and Republicans seem to blame poor/low-income workers for their plight. Our President has previously discussed his concerns over income inequality and has now proposed revising the tax code with the goal of raising the incomes of lower and middle class. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2015/01/20/echoes-of-piketty-in-obama-proposal-to-address-income-inequality/?_r=0

We can work towards fairness in our tax code. We can demand it from our representatives in Congress. Let's get our President's back on this and contact our Senators and Repesentatives.
